16th October – Praying For Rain

 In Jack’s Blog

It all about the rain dance, I am now doing the opposite one to last January! We have had the driest, hottest summer on record and I have been tempted to set up a side line in Ice cream sales!

What an amazing summer though with soring temperatures. The horses didn’t seem bothered by it and have come back in looking good, certainly the youngsters have filled out and look stronger after their break.

We have some old favourites retire after last season one being POSH TOTTY who will now go off to stud and start a new career breeding hopefully with the same success as on the course.

We have recently had our Open Day which as before was a chance for all our Owners to see their horses and meet the team. This being the only day I didn’t pray for rain and it remained dry. I have added a few photos of the day to the website.

Talking of the team, we have recently employed Henry Platt who will be my Conditional Jockey this season once he has completed his training course at the racing school.  He is keen as mustard which is always good to see in someone so young.  The team remain the same from last season, although Jackie has stood down as Head Girl and our new Head Lad has recently taken over the reins.  We also welcome on board Mike Couchman our new yardman who has recently moved here from Cornwall.

As we enter the barmy hot Autumn, ground permitting, I plan to start running the horses towards the end of this month. They are all going well and I am pleased with their progress. Nick Scofield has been in regularly schooling and I will be making entries for SHINTORI who I never got to the track last season due to minor set-backs.  REDMOND who ran well last season not finishing out of the first three in all his five runs. SMART BOY who was our first winner last year proving to be a real star for his owners all last season finishing on a high winning at Taunton. KING CALVIN who won twice last season over hurdles will now go Novice chasing after a small wind op this summer. L’CHAMISE will go Novice hurdling and DARCY WARD will be one to watch this season having won first time out last January, he will go Handicap Hurdling of a mark of 127.

We had the WESSEX RACING CLUB visit last weekend with 30 of their members visiting the yard and seeing their club horse THREE IN ONE. I am aiming to run him in November in a Novice hurdle.  He is a smart young prospect who ran twice last season Pointing finishing second both times.

Anyone keen to get involved in having a horse or part of one please do contact me as we have a few shares left in THE MOVIE THEATRE SYNDICATE. This is a good way to become very involved at a fixed monthly fee after an initial 10% share purchase.  Please see the details of MOVIE THEATRE and the syndicate on the website, better still come and visit him and meet the team.

We also have REBEL COMMANDER for sale a 6yr old by Flemensfirth, I bought him at Doncaster in May.  He is a smart individual and a bold jumper. He was second in two bumpers and was third in a novice hurdle last time out for Nicky Henderson, and I have made an entry for him up in Market Rasen on Saturday.
