NOVEMBER- DECEMBER ROUND UP.

 In Jack’s Blog

Our first runner in November was THREE IN ONE at Exeter on the 13th where he was well supported by his new owners in the WESSEX RACING CLUB, he ran in a 2m 5  Novices’ Hurdle and although he did not run badly it was clear they ran too quick for him and he needed softer ground. I ran him on Monday at Plumpton in the 2m 4 Maiden Hurdle and he finished 7th.  Nick said he made a slight noise, so I will try a tongue tie next time which might help him.
REDMOND also had an outing at Exeter in the 3m Chase he ran well enough but similarly to Three In One he found it too quick.  With more rain forecast I will look to run him after the New Year.

I ran three at Chepstow on 21st November, VARDS ran a really good race having been off the course for a long time, coming second. I ran him on Wednesday at Newbury where he finished a pleasing 9th in a very competitive Novice Hurdle.

DARCY WARD ran at Market Rasen on the 22nd in the Handicap Hurdle over 2m 7f and it rained all day, it was good to soft which lead to heavy! He finished 7th and just weakened in the closing stages. He jumped well and I will be looking for the better ground, I have entered him for Wincanton on Boxing day.

LAMANVER ODYSSEY made her debut for us at  Ffos Las on the 23rd Nov finishing a promising 4th in the Handicap hurdle over 2m 6f, I was delighted with how she ran and thrilled for her owners Donna & Phil Christensen who have bred her.  She travelled well throughout the race and jumped gamley under Aidan Coleman. I ran her again at Hereford last Saturday with Nick on board over 2m3, she loves soft ground and ran really well, I will step her up next time as she stayed on well. I hope to get her out in the New Year.

I have decided that Ffos Las is rather like Marmite, you either love it or hate and our second runner there on the day was MOVIE THEATRE who sadly hated the going in the Maiden Hurdle over 2m4f he was tailed off which led to him being pulled up.

Henry Platt is our new conditional Jockey having been with us for the past few months. I gave him his first ride at Exeter on 25th Nov on REBEL COMMANDER in the Con Jockeys hurdle race over 2 miles, Henry and the horse did well but unfortunately the horse made a blunder two from home and wisely he pulled him up. SHINTORI ran in the 2m 5 hurdle finishing 6th just struggling in the last couple of furlongs. I then stepped him back in trip at Plumpton over 2m 3 last Monday where Nick gave him an incredible ride and produced the win on the line. This horse rides very keenly at home and I knew the best place for him was at the back of the field allowing him to settle with no other horses around so he could get into a rhythm. This is his third run for us and first run over fences for me. The team at home have worked extremely hard over the past few months so having a win like this is really rewarding for everyone involved.

We had a really encouraging start with GULSHANIGANS getting back on the track at Wincanton on 6th Dec running in 2m5f Novices Handicap Hurdle. We bought this horse from the sales in May 2017. He then unfortunately suffered a stress fracture to his pelvis in November 2017, which lead him to having the rest of the season off. We gave him all the time he needed which I am pleased to say reflected in the way he ran. He is a big scopey, individual and I was so thrilled with his performance, he ran a great race to finish 2nd and I am looking forward to his next outing which I hope will be after the New Year.

LAMANVER BEL AMI another homebred from Donna & Phil Christensen, out of their broodmare LAMANVER HOMERUN by BLACK SAM BELLAMY made his racecourse debut at Exeter on the 7th Dec in the bumper. He ran slightly too keenly early on and was unfortunately outpaced but he did stay on in the final furlong of this very competitive bumper.  He has still got a lot of growing and filling out to do yet but he has come out of the race really well and I could not have been happier with his run. He enjoys his work at home and I hope once he matures he will be one to watch for the future.

On Monday 10th Dec we had the MOVIE THEATRE SYNDICATE come to see their horse being worked on the gallops, we had plenty of Bunker banter after which they enjoyed Mulled Wine and  Mince pies. It is always nice to see owners at the yard and gives them a chance to see what goes on behind the scenes.

On the 13th we headed to Taunton with two, I had originally declared four to run but the ground wasn’t right so I decided in the morning just to run the two with the ground coming up too quick.

BALLYKNOCK CLOUD was the first runner the 2m 7 Novice Chase, I was quitely pleased with his run he was unfortunately outpaced but stayed on at the end to finish 7th. It was a competitive Handicap, so I’m pleased with the run and I will be looking for another race for him after the New Year.

We sent VARDS and KING CALVIN to Newbury this Wednesday.

KING CALVIN needed this run badly after slipping up at Cheltenham at the end of October, so I was glad to get him out. I was very pleased with his run being the first time over fences and I look forward to his next outing in the New Year.

Thursday we headed to Exeter where I was delighted with both of our runners. ASK THE WEATHERMAN ran a fantastic race leading from the start, he settled and jumped well. Having had a wind operation in the summer it proved to get him back to his winning ways with his wind not hindering him he was able to perform under the careful guidance of Nick, he produced him to pull away when asked winning convincingly.  This was brilliant for everyone involved and it was so good to see him back to his old self.  I will look for a race in the New Year.

AMZAC MAGIC ran in the 2m 5 Amateur riders hurdle with Martin McIntrye on board.  Martin lives locally and rides out for us regularly here, knowing the horse well giving him a promising ride to finish 4th.  He has taken his time to settle in his races and I ran him in a hood which proved to settle him almost too much so I will try him without next time.

Tonight is the yard staff knees up which we are all looking forward to, fingers crossed some of them will tip up to work on Sunday morning!

May I take this opportunity to wish you all a Happy Christmas and New Year.
